Once Upon a Time, in 2008, two Brazilian friends who adored coffee found themselves transplanted to New York City.  Homesick for the beautiful coffees they’d grown up drinking, they discovered high-quality Brazilian specialties were difficult to find.  In fact, many coffee aficionados they met weren’t even aware of the tremendous variety of flavors cultivated within Brazil’s diverse geography.  Nor had they heard about the centuries-old tradition of sustainable growing and responsible stewardship embodied in Brazil’s estate-coffee culture.  Something had to be done!  A partnership was established, there and then, to create a market for high-quality Brazilian coffee specialties.  Working directly and constantly with growers, Joy Brazil provides a portfolio of responsibly-cultivated, amazingly-delicious green beans.

Eliane Sobral has been a senior retail executive with brands like Victoria Secret, Express, Levis and Ann Taylor.  She’s traveled the world, but acknowledges it’s her last several years in Manhattan during which she’s been able, at last, to explore the art and science of coffee.

Fernanda Mazzuco has worked in the coffee industry for more than a decade, part of that as the senior marketing executive for a leading coffee company in Brazil, where she was instrumental in developing their export strategy. She also pioneered the barista championship in Brazil through its Barista Championship Association, the ACBB.  Her morning cup is served from a French press in Brooklyn.
